Privacy & Security
We work diligently to protect the ability of clients in the retail, entertainment, technology, consumer, and healthcare sectors to collect, retain, and utilize customer information.

Year after year, California introduces legislation aimed at enhancing consumer privacy protections and increasing data security standards. Capitol Advocacy has been at the forefront of discussions on California’s largest privacy initiatives. Most recently, this included the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), enacted in 2018, and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), approved by voters in 2020 via Proposition 24. While the CCPA expanded liability for companies doing business in California and created broad, new privacy rights for consumers, we have worked to defend against attempts to further expand the CCPA and have advocated to obtain critical amendments for our clients.
In 2020, our team was intimately involved in negotiations on the CPRA which enshrines an expanded version of the CCPA in the Constitution. We worked with proponents to mitigate some of the CPRA’s most problematic provisions. Capitol Advocacy is the premier lobbying firm in California for handling CCPA, CPRA, and other privacy-related issues, not just because of the breadth of our experience, but because of the depth of our knowledge.
