Margaret Gladstein, partner with Capitol Advocacy and experience privacy lobbyist, spoke on a panel sponsored by the California Retailers Association (CRA) on December 6th regarding the California Consumer Privacy Act and the impact to small business.
As Margaret mentioned on the panel, even small businesses making under $25 million in annual sales may be affected by the California Consumer Privacy Act due to an additional component of the law which indicates any company that collects 50,000 pieces of consumer data will need to comply with the new regulation. Margaret noted, “a video or something that goes viral could hit that 50,000 thresholds very easily even if [a small business] didn’t have the 137 hits a day.”
