Kate Bell, partner with Capitol Advocacy and the firm’s lead lobbyist on housing, provided a presentation to over 530 members of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles on the impacts of COVID-19 as it relates to property owners, and the state as a whole.
In a matter of weeks, COVID-19 has caused California and the rest of the nation to halt to a virtual standstill. As Kate mentioned, as of April 27th there were over 42,000 total cases of COVID-19 in California. This has had a dramatic effect on property owners and has prompted Governor Newsom, and a number of local jurisdictions, to implement eviction moratoriums across the state. In addition, this virus will impact a variety of housing bills in the Legislature, along with every other piece of legislation currently being considered. Kate provided an overview of the crisis and gave insight on how property owners, the Legislature, the Governor and the rest of the state will navigate this pandemic.
