Leslie Medina

An original Capitol Advocacy partner, Leslie Medina brings some 35 years of experience as a senior policy aid to California’s top elected officials and as a management consultant to federal, state and local governments. She currently provides counsel to a diverse set of clients on issues including technology and entertainment policy, revenue and taxation and the state budget.

Before forming Capitol Advocacy, Leslie served as director of state and local policy for a leading multinational distilled spirits and entertainment conglomerate, where she was responsible for managing all facets of the company’s relations with state governments. Prior to this, she was employed by one of the nation’s largest information technology firms, working to advance statewide business development and services throughout California. She also has nearly a decade of experience as a management consultant specializing in research and evaluation of criminal and juvenile justice, domestic violence and child abuse and neglect programs.

Leslie was budget and policy director for former Speaker Willie L. Brown, Jr. for nearly 11 years, with responsibilities that included managing the state budget, bonds and a broad range of other major policy initiatives. Among her other positions in the California State Assembly, she served as principal consultant to the Committee on Governmental Efficiency and Consumer Protection and as chief of staff to a well-respected, veteran member.

Leslie holds degrees in political science and criminology from the University of California, Berkeley and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. Leslie lives in Walnut Grove with her husband, Greg.
